Automated Kub Kar Race
by Barry Kwong, 6th Meadowvale, Mississauga
April 2009
One of the major events each year is the Kub Kar race. Leaders used to stare at the finish line to determine the place of the cars. Imagine the confusion, arguments raised, and the cubs upset because they could not see their cars dashing cross the finish line.
Five years ago, one of our leaders volunteered to build a nice 40 foot long 6 lane Kub Kar track. Somehow during the leaders meeting, I put my hand up to volunteer to take on the challenge to computerize the track.
Now we have a state of the art computerized Kub Kar track which starts at a push of a button, determines the order of the cars, the time they take, the scale speed of each car – and all these results are processed and displayed onto an overhead as soon as all cars cross the finish line. With this system, registration and scheduling can be done in minutes. The heats are scheduled in such a way that every car has to run on each track to ensure fairness. No more disputes on who should be the winner.
